2024 ELECTION: APC unveils Rev. Dr. Samuel Worlanyo Mensah as running mate

4/9/2024

Leader and flagbearer of the All-People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Hassan Ayariga, has announced the flagbearer of the Great Alliance Ghana (GAG), Rev. Dr. Samuel Worlanyo Mensah as his running mate and Vice-Presidential candidate for the APC.

The move signifies the merger of the two political parties in an attempt to form a formidable opponent and possibly become the third largest party after NDC and NPP.

According to Dr. Ayariga, the collaboration is a step in the right direction as it is aimed at winning the 2024 general elections.
The APC leader made this assertion at the unveiling ceremony at the GNAT New Conference Hall in Accra on Wednesday, September 4.

Addressing party members at the event, Dr. Ayariga urged Ghanaians to put an end to the country’s political duopoly by voting the APC into power.

According to him, the dominance of the NDC and the NPP can be attributed to voter apathy – a situation that could only worsen the plight of the country.

“When we refuse to make changes, then we are endorsing corruption, mismanagement, bad leadership. We have seen the leadership of both parties, the NDC and NPP, they are not new to us, 16 years each of the NDC and NPP and we are crying for change,” he said.

Dr. Ayariga said Ghanaians are crying for change everyday but are adamant in making the change.

“You say that when you vote the other political parties, they are not going to win. But I disagree with that. It is only when you make that change that the other political parties will win. We do not sit down and fold our arms and allow certain group of people and crop of leadership to mismanage our country and then we sit aloof and say we are tired,” he added.

Rev. Dr. Samuel Worlanyo Mensah is an economist and the Head Pastor of Christ White House Chapel in Ghana.
With this, the APC leader believes Dr. Worlanyo’s religious background will help him fight against corruption.

In addition to his plans to ban the operations of forex bureaus in Ghana if elected President, a move he believes will help strengthen the cedi against other trading currencies, Dr. Ayariga is also proposing to ban the importation of some foodstuffs and encourage farmers to produce for local consumption.

He further touted Dr. Worlanyo Mensah’s economic prowess as best attribute to help him turn the country’s economic fortunes around if given the nod.

“His philosophy is centered around making a positive impact, driving economic growth, and promoting social justice. With his diverse experience and expertise, he is a respected voice in Ghana’s economy, and leadership, landscape,” Dr. Ayariga emphasised.

Rev. Dr. Samuel Worlanyo Mensah accepted his nomination as APC’s Vice-Presidential candidate and was sworn in accordingly.
