Residents of Bethlehem appeal for improved health facility

Access to quality healthcare in the rural areas in Ghana has been a big challenge for so many years hence the introduction of the National Health Insurance Scheme in 2003 by government as a step towards achieving universal health coverage.

The issue seems not to be different in some part of the capital.

Assembly-member for Bethlehem Electoral area, Richard Tsatsu is calling for a public health facility to help address health challenges in the area.

As names were mentioned for the newly registered applicants to come forward for their cards, many were also in the que waiting for their names to be mentioned. The smiles on the faces of these first-time owners of the health insurance card in Bethlehem Electoral Area was made possible by the Member of Parliament for Kpone Katamanso Constituency, Joseph Akuerteh Tettey who shares reasons behind the initiative for the constituents.

Manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme at Tema, Linda Acquah admitted challenges residents of the area go through in accessing the card.

She said the nearest area for them to get registered is Tema which is too far from the area.
