Dr. Kwasi Binney, a renowned security expert has issued a stern warning to the leadership of Ghana’s security agencies, urging them to take swift action against individuals who make statements that threaten the country’s peace and stability, particularly in the build-up to this year’s general elections in December.

His comments come in response to the controversial remarks made by Food and Agriculture Minister who doubles as the Member of Parliament for the Abetifi constituency, Hon. Bryan Acheampong, regarding the ruling party’s willingness to use any means necessary to secure victory in the upcoming elections.

“We must guard against conflict-oriented comments since such comments are not only ill-timed but also dangerous, as they have the potential to incite violence and provoke retaliatory actions from opposing political parties,” Dr. Binney emphasised.

He noted that similar statements have been the catalyst for conflicts and wars in various African countries, highlighting the need for responsible and measured language from public figures.

The security expert stressed that public servants must prioritize serving the people rather than their individual interests. He also urged politicians to equip themselves with effective communication skills.

“There must be institutions in place to provide orientation and training for politicians on responsible communication during campaign tour,” Dr. Binney added.

This, he believes, will help prevent the spread of hatred and chaos, and ensure that speeches and utterances do not compromise the country’s peace and security.

Dr. Binney also expressed disappointment in the dishonourable conduct of some politicians who consistently demonstrate a lack of humility, respect, and understanding for opposing views.

He argued that individuals who fail to embody these qualities do not deserve to be referred to as “Honourable” and must be held accountable for their actions without any favour.
