By Stanley Kwabla Arku

The Ministry of Education has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with eLearning Africa, confirming Ghana as the host country for the 18th edition of the eLearning Africa Conference, scheduled to take place in Accra from June 3 to 5, 2026.

The signing ceremony, held at the Ministry of Education in Accra, brought together ministry officials, representatives from eLearning Africa, and key players in the education sector.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister for Education, Hon. Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, described the partnership as a significant milestone in Ghana’s journey toward digital transformation in education. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve learning outcomes and broaden access to quality education.

“This agreement reflects our broader national agenda to embrace innovation in education and strengthen Ghana’s leadership in the digital learning space,” Dr. Apaak stated. “We look forward to welcoming Africa and the world to Accra in 2026.”

He further emphasized the importance of the upcoming conference in showcasing Ghana’s educational reforms, particularly under initiatives such as the Ghana Accountability for Learning Outcomes Project (GALOP) and the Education Strategic Plan (2018–2030).

Dr. Apaak also highlighted the SCALE initiative, which has attracted support from international partners such as the Jacobs Foundation, Botnar Foundation, UBS Optimus Foundation, and major cocoa and chocolate companies. Through this collaboration, GALOP has reached more than 15,000 schools, impacting over two million learners and 64,000 teachers nationwide.

“This is more than just hosting a conference,” he added. “It is an opportunity to demonstrate how innovation, technology, and partnerships can drive meaningful change in education.”

Speaking on behalf of eLearning Africa, CEO and Founder Rebecca Stromeyer expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration and praised Ghana’s forward-thinking approach to educational development.

The MoU paves the way for deeper cooperation between the Ministry and eLearning Africa in the build-up to the 2026 event. It also reinforces Ghana’s ambition to become a leading hub for educational innovation on the continent.
