Chief of Coaltar vows to end galamsey in the Ayensuano District

Chief of Coaltar, a town in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region, Barima Okekrebesi Asiedu II has expressed frustration over illegal mining activities in the area.

The Traditional ruler has however vowed to end the menace which has ravaged farm lands and water bodies.

Speaking to the media after the coronation of some 8 sub-chiefs, Barima Okekrebesi Asiedu ll bemoaned the negative impact of illegal mining on the Ayensu river and further threatened to stop anyone within his traditional area who engages in the menace.

According to him, a company recently brought a document claiming to be a mining permit; a document he rejected in an attempt to end the canker in the area.

He further accused some chiefs of conniving with the illegal miners to destroy lands as well as water bodies in the country.

Touching on the upcoming election, Barima Okekrebesi Asiedu ll called for peace before, during and after the election and further admonished the Electoral Commission to ensure free, fair and transparent polls.

He called for calm among residents of Coaltar in the upcoming election and also warned parents to advise their wards against electoral violence.

Nii Laryea Otiajaasu of Accra Dedeiman Traditional Council who doubles as the Tufuhene of Coaltar on the other hand advised the youth to be humble and truthful in everything they do.

He further called for a peaceful election and entreated electorates to vote for whoever they believe has the country at heart and can develop it.
