The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur has inaugurated a ten-member board to lead the Fisheries commission for the next four years.

She congratulated the newly inaugurated board members and urged them to follow their new vision statement and code of conduct for public service workers issued by President John Dramani Mahama in order to promote transparency, patriotism and discipline.

Addressing the Press, Emelia Arthur opined that the sector feeds millions, employs thousands and has vast potential for economic transformation. She also said the ministry has a key role to play in manifesting the full potential of National Blue economy for Ghana.

This is not just an administrative appointment; it is a national calling. Our sector feeds millions, employs thousands, and has vast potential for economic transformation.

I urge you to be guided by the new vision statement adopted by the Ministry and its agencies:

“A sustainable, well-governed, resilient fisheries and aquaculture sector, driven by equity, innovation, and strategic investments, delivering food security, decent jobs, economic growth, resources and environmental stewardship, and contributing to the National Blue Economy Agenda.” Says Hon. Emelia Arthur

This vision demands more than routine governance. It requires bold decisions, data-driven planning, and a deep responsibility to the environment and the people.

I expect quarterly reports from the board and clear, honest updates that show progress, challenges, and proposed actions. Accountability will be the backbone of our collaboration.

The Minister also reminded them of the new code of conduct for public service, issued by H.E., the President of the Republic.

“Uphold it in your work; let transparency, patriotism, and discipline define your leadership”. She said

Let this be a board that sets a benchmark for others. Together, let’s build a sector that is truly sustainable, inclusive, and globally competitive.
