The Ghana Education Service (GES) says it will clear all outstanding salary arrears owed to 6,249 teaching and non-teaching staff by the end of November 2025.
The affected personnel include newly recruited teachers who have gone nearly ten months without pay.
The assurance follows Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu’s announcement that Cabinet has approved funds for the payment of the arrears.
Addressing the media on Thursday, October 16, the Deputy Director-General of GES, Dr. Smile Gavua Dzisi, confirmed that the necessary processes have begun to ensure the timely release of funds.

“Following Cabinet’s approval of the extension of financial clearance granted in 2024, through the sector minister, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, and his team, we have been directed to immediately complete the process for the payment of all recruited staff who are yet to be paid,” Dr. Dzisi stated.
She added that all necessary mechanisms are being put in place to guarantee that affected staff receive their due by the set deadline.
“These unpaid teaching and non-teaching staff total about 6,249. We’re starting the process immediately after this press conference to ensure that every one of them is paid by the end of November,” she assured.
The payment, according to the Ministry, forms part of ongoing efforts to address salary delays and improve welfare conditions within the education sector.
