“GIVE MAHAMA CREDIT FOR AMERI POWER PLANT,” – SEGBEFIA ADMONISHES GOVERNMENT AHEAD OF K1TPP COMMISSIONING

Former deputy Chief of Staff and Director of International Relations of the National Democratic Congress, Alexander Percival Segbefia, has admonished the ruling administration to give former President John Mahama credit for the Ameri Power Plant.

According to the former Health Minister, the existence of the aforementioned power plant, which has been relocated to the Ashanti Region for the purpose of providing power to the region, can be attributed to the remarkable stewardship and ingenuity of the former president.

Mr. Segbefia, a regular panelist on Pan African Television’s Good Morning Africa show, made these comments in the wake of the decision of the ruling administration to rebrand the Ameri Power Plant as Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant and capture it in the government’s performance tracker; a move the opposition NDC has described as ‘shameful’.

Mr. Segbefia, in his remarks on the much slated decision by the government, advised the Akufo-Addo regime to acknowledge John Mahama as the brain behind the Ameri Power Plant.

“Give John Mahama credit because he has now become your saviour. The Ameri which you need in the Ashanti Region was brought by John Mahama, so if you’re going to do this fake inauguration, let it be said there that we give credit to John Mahama for the foresight to bring this power plant,” he stressed.

Alex Segbefia, who also served as Deputy Defence Minister in the erstwhile NDC administration, made a resounding claim that nobody in the New Patriotic Party could emulate the exemplary leadership of ex-President Mahama.

“You painted him like the devil, now the rain is falling and we can now see his real colours. We are beginning to see the visionary that he was. He’s not an angel, he has his flaws, but when it comes to governance, no one in the NPP can walk in the footsteps that he has left,” Mr. Segbefia added.

He reiterated that comparing all the micro and macroeconomics indicators of both administrations, the NDC government stands having managed to deal with Ghana’s issues including the power crisis during its tenure.

The government has set Wednesday, April 17, 2024, as the day it will commission the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant originally procured under the NDC administration to mitigate the then Dumsor power crisis with a capacity to generate 25 megawatts of power.

The commissioning will take place at Anwomaso in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region, something that has left leaders and supporters of the NDC extremely livid.
