Hon. Emelia Arthur Calls For Revision Of Fisheries Act Laws To Address Sanction

Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, has touched on the need for revising the fisheries act laws to align with the modern global trends and the blue economy.

Addressing the Press on the aforesaid issue, she disclosed why it is important for urgent law revision to address illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing in Ghana, aiming to lift the European Union’s “Yellow Card Sanction” for the better.

“As you all know the fisheries sector in Ghana has three sub sectors, marine, in-land and aquaculture, we have done a lot of work as people concentrating more on marine capture fisheries than in land capture fisheries and aquaculture”. Says Hon. Emelia Arthur

She further stated that there modern global trends regarding fisheries management, ocean management and the whole big-huge concepts of blue economy.

 “So it is important that we revise our law to fit into the modern global trends and all the different international treaties that Ghana is signatory to” Says the fisheries minister.
