I was once told by my professor that the media only reflects the views of the dominant ideology in society He also emphasized that the legal system is mainly to protect the property and interest of the dominant ideology
The war in Gaza and the Russian Ukraine war has clearly demonstrated my professors view The ground rules set for the world to follow like Human Rights rule of law and international laws are exempt for the rich and powerful mainly the USA and the West.
The international organizations like the UN The Security Council international Court of Justice ICC are meant to protect them and to be used against other countries to whip them in line and not for them Listening to media houses from the West ,one can clearly see from the language where their bias is The BBC and other western media will describe Russias Putin as a despot and invader and Zelenske as a democrat who deserves all their support Hamas as terrorist and Israel as having the right to defend themselves The Western media have turned a blind eye to the genocide in Gaza and never mention it as such but rather blame Hamas for the situation despite the fact that Palestinians have been under dictatorship of Israel and is described as the largest open prison in the world The events of October 7th while being condemned as terrorist act by western media never mention the disproportionate killings and distractions of communities, hospitals and use of starvation as part of collective punishment, killing of children as act of terrorism
In Ghana one can find similar biases expressed by the media houses in favor of one political party or the other depending on ownership Some media houses always present panelists with particular views thereby undermining the principle of balance and fair reportage others engage in fake news miseducation ,disinformation
and propaganda
Western media often report on negative developments in Africa, Conflicts,famine and corruption as if there is never ever positive development going on
Recently Aljazeera was banned from operating in Israel and without condemnation from any western media neither have they ever described Natenyahu as a despot or dictator as they would have done to an African leader or a leader not in the good books of the west
It is high time the hypocrisy of western media and their governments be clearly exposed for what they stand for not media freedom and democracy as they want us to believe they are
