The Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Ministry has been engaging with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in Accra ahead of the National Sanitation Day launch this Saturday, 6th September, 2025.
In his address, the sector minister, Ahmed Ibrahim, directed all MMDCEs in the capital to take charge by cleaning all ceremonial streets and public spaces starting tomorrow 4th September, 2025, ahead of the relaunch.

“All public spaces , ceremonial streets, and visible nuisances within your jurisdiction must be cleared by 8:00am every day beginning tomorrow 4th September, 2025,” he directed.
Strewing that poor sanitation undermines the dignity, safety and well-being of citizens and reflects poorly on local governance.
Dean for the Greater Accra MMDCEs, John Sowah Nai, assures the Minister of cooperating with the ministry to enforce full compliance with the directives.

The National Sanitation Day aims to enhance sanitation efforts across Ghana, promoting a clean and safe environment.
The official relaunch is slated for September 6, 2025 and the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama is expected to grace the occasion.
The government emphasizes the importance of collective effort and behavioral change to achieve better sanitation practices, prioritizing public education, waste segregation, and recycling.
