Two suspects linked to a robbery incident at Mallam Junction in Accra have been remanded into police custody, while law enforcement officers intensify efforts to apprehend two other accomplices who remain at large.
According to a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs of the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, Ms Juliana Obeng (SUPT), states that the Accra Circuit Court has remanded two men suspected to be part of a robbery gang that attacked and robbed commuters and traders at Mallam Junction earlier this week.
The statement also states that the suspects were arrested following swift intelligence-led operations after the incident, which occurred during the early hours of Tuesday. The armed men allegedly blocked portions of the road, seized valuables, and assaulted some victims before fleeing the scene.
Police say the suspects in custody have confessed to their involvement and are assisting in investigations. Two other accomplices are, however, still on the run, and a manhunt has been launched to bring them to justice.
The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has urged the public to remain calm and cooperate by providing any relevant information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects.
Meanwhile, the victims who sustained minor injuries are said to be receiving medical attention, and security patrols around the Mallam Junction enclave have been intensified to prevent similar incidents.
