Despite Madagascar leading the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier ‘Group I’ table with ten points, the Black Stars of Ghana may leapfrog them with a win against Chad in their game tomorrow, Friday, March 21, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

On the back of this, President John Dramani Mahama met the team yesterday at the stadium during their training session and charged them to qualify for the tourney and bring the trophy home.

The President’s visit is aimed at boosting the morale of the team ahead of their clash with Chad as they look forward to securing a win to bolster their chances.

His presence was met with excitement as he interacted with the players and the technical staff while offering words of encouragement.

“We haven’t given up on you. We still believe that the Black Stars can find its glory again, and it’s dependent on you and the technical team, and the management committee. We can’t come and play the football, we can make the resources available, we can come to the stadia and cheer you on, but eventually, the goals will come from these feet that are right here,” President Mahama stated.

He however acknowledged the fact that playing for the national team is not as lucrative as playing for their respective clubs but the sense of pride and patriotism that characterises Ghana’s participation at the World Cup is something worth dying for.

He further expressed optimism in the team’s ability to redeem itself from the AFCON debacle by committing to a successful performance at the global football tournament.

Mr. Mahama therefore urged the players to bring their expertise displayed during their respective club games across the glob to the national team to enable them qualify and to win the ultimate trophy.

Black Stars’ win against Chad will see the team pick up twelve (12) points and hop over Madagascar to occupy the top spot on the qualifying table. The team currently sit 3rd behind Comoros with nine (9) points.
