Former President John Dramani Mahama has said his running mate in the upcoming general elections, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku will be his co-driver to steers the affairs of the country if the National Democratic Congress emerges victorious.
This assertion comes as a direct response to the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia who earlier indicated that there were some decisions he could not take as Vice President because he is only a driver’s mate.
The NDC Flagbearer in an interaction with party loyalists in Chiana Paga in the Upper East Region assured Ghanaians that Prof. Opoku Agyemang will take direct responsibiltty for some ministries including education, health and gender and social protection.
Mr. Mahama further emphasised that women, who hold the lion share of Ghana’s population ought to be in key leadership positions. “The women of the Ghana are more than the men, they are the majority of our population. Unfortunately, even though they have served in many offices in Ghana, they have never served in the office of Vice President and President”, he noted.
He expressed optimism by stating categorically that Prof. Opoku Agyemang will become Ghana’s first ever female Vice President. “A woman on 7th December, 2024 is going to be elected as the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana”.
John Mahama has been touring the country with his Building the Ghana We Want agenda and one of his key policies at the back of which he campaigns is the proposed Women’s bank and the candidature of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, a potential first female veep.
