AFCON 2025Q: Disappointing Black Stars Missed Out On Three Points Again; Held To 1-1 Draw Against Niger.

9/9/2024

The Black Stars of Ghana have once again failed to pick up all three points in their second game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Stars shared the spoils after being held to a 1-1 draw by Niger on Monday, September 9, in Berkane, Morocco.

Otto Addo’s boys broke the deadlock with a minute to end the first half after Alidu Seidu opened the scoring with a swerving shot outside the box to beat the Nigerien goalkeeper, putting Ghana in the lead before the break.

Despite making two changes to the Stars’ starting lineup that lost to Angola on Thursday, September 5, neither Majeed Ashimeru and Inaki Williams could make their presence felt with a goal.

The Stars came back into the second half with Mohammed Kudus coming close to getting on the scoresheet after a pass from Inaki Williams but his effort was thwarted by the Nigerien goalkeeper.

With 10 minutes to go, Niger’s Oumar Sako leveraged a defensive scramble in the Black Stars box to secure the equalizer for the Mena.
Having levelled the scoreline, Niger held on to ensure the game ended in a stalemate.

With this, Ghana ended up picking up just one point in their opening two games of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.

The Black Stars will next play Sudan in a home-and-away fixture before wrapping up with Angola and Niger in November.
