The visit, which began July 5, runs through July 11 and is Nandi-Ndaitwah’s first trip to China since she was inaugurated in March 2025. It follows a ministerial meeting in Beijing in April at which both sides agreed to advance cooperation across energy, minerals, agriculture, infrastructure, and technology. Two days later, six people were arrested on live television outside the Kenyan Parliament building. The bill extends President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s current term by two years, from 2028 to 2030, and removes the direct popular election of the president. Going forward, a joint sitting of parliament will choose Zimbabwe’s head of state. Citizens will not. The National Assembly had already passed the bill 216 votes to 42. ZANU-PF holds a two-thirds majority in both chambers, the threshold required to amend the constitution.
