The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) is preparing to roll out its new smart vehicle number plate system as part of efforts to strengthen road safety, improve vehicle identification and curb the use of fake registration plates. The nationwide exercise which takes effect next month is expected to register more than three million vehicles starting under the new digital platform, marking one of the Authority’s biggest vehicle registration reforms.The smart number plates will be embedded with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, enabling law enforcement agencies to instantly verify the authenticity of vehicles and detect cloned or fake number plates.
