The Minister for Youth and Sport , Mustapha Ussif, says there hasn’t been any response from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to inspection calls for the Accra and Cape Coast Sports Stadia.
CAF’s ban on the Baba Yara Stadium has brought the Ghana Football Association (GFA) under pressure as the association races against time to secure a suitable venue for the Black Stars next home game.
The National Sports Authority (NSA) closed down the Accra, Cape Coast and Baba Yara Sports Stadia for maintenance works following CAF’s decision.
According to the Sports Minister, the ministry’s directive to GFA to request CAF’s inspection is yet to yield any results.
“It’s not that we don’t have FIFA-standard pitches in Ghana: we do have FIFA-standard pitches in Cape Coast, Accra, and Kumasi,” Ussif told Parliament’s Sports Select Committee on Tuesday. September 24.
“It is not true that we lack FIFA-standard stadiums in Ghana. It is up to CAF to decide. We have written to them to request an inspection of the Accra Sports Stadium and Cape Coast Sports Stadium, and they have yet to respond,” he added.
The Black Stars are likely to host their next home game abroad if no stadium in the country meets CAF’s requirement.
Ghana will take on Sudan next month on Friday, October 11, 2024 in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
