President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has commissioned a new artificial football pitch at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The pitch, which was funded by BetPawa forms part of the agenda to establish a 3,000-capacity stadium at the sports facility by the nation’s football governing body, GFA.
The commissioning of the pitch marks the completion of phase one of the project. The event also preceded the 30th Congress of the football administration body.
According to Mr. Simeon-Okraku, the construction of the modern astro turf indicates the association’s commitment to enhance facilities for the development of sports in Ghana.
He emphasised that the pitch is a significant step in unearthing and nurturing football talents for world competitive games. Mr. Okraku assured that the association will put the pitch to good use while expressing his appreciation to BetPawa.
“We’ve had the old pitch for close to 15 years, and obviously with the growth in the number of our national teams, it was clear we needed more investments.
So, for BetPawa to invest huge sums of money in the construction of this pitch, it will only but help our football association and our strategies in developing football talents and I’m super excited,” he said.
At the same event, the African Business Development Manager for BetPawa, Mr. Charles Tape, expressed his outfit’s commitment to developing football and other sports in the country.
“What we should expect from BetPawa is more investment into local community; into local organisations and associations to better off the ecosystem in which we operate,” Mr. Tape assured.
Mr. Simeon-Okraku and Oluwatosin Ajibade, a BetPawa shareholder, cut sod for the commencement of the BetPawa Park Project during the 2022/2023 season.
The approved master plan for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Technical Centre features an administration block, a hotel facility, a mini stadium for international matches, futsal and beach soccer pitches, as well as artificial and natural training pitches for traditional football.
The Regional Football Association was engaged by the GFA in an entertaining football match as part of the commissioning activities.
The GFA Vice-President Mark Addo, members of the Executive Council, and Congress delegates were dignitaries who graced the occasion with their presence on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
