GFA Sacks Otto Addo As Black Stars Coach

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars following his poor performance and losing streak in recent international friendlies.

The FA announced the decision few hours after Ghana’s 2–1 loss to Germany on Monday, March 30, 2026, an undesired result which was preceded by a humiliating 5–1 defeat to Austria in the team’s World Cup intercontinental friendlies. The results extended Otto Addo’s losing streak to four consecutive matches and heightened concerns about the team’s chances in the fast-approaching tournament.

In a statement on the FA’s official website, the Ghana Football Association acknowledged Otto Addo’s contribution to the team and wished him well in his future endeavours.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has parted ways with the Head Coach of the senior men’s national team (Black Stars), Otto Addo, effective immediately. The Association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his contribution to the team and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” – the statement reads.

The FA further indicated that it will in due course communicate the new technical direction of the Black Stars.

Ghana has been drawn into Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
