Accra, September 2, 2025 — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced plans to reopen Ghana’s Embassy in Tehran, Iran, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. The decision follows improvements in the security situation in the country after months of heightened tension between Iran and Israel.
The Embassy was temporarily closed on June 16, 2025, as part of precautionary measures to protect Ghanaian diplomatic staff amid escalating hostilities in the region. At the time, the Ministry cited concerns over staff safety and assured the public that it would closely monitor developments before taking further steps.
In its latest statement, the Ministry noted that conditions in Iran have since stabilized, paving the way for the resumption of normal diplomatic operations. It added, however, that the situation will continue to be assessed to ensure the security of Ghanaian officials and citizens living in Iran.
“The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that the safety of the staff working in the Embassy and the Ghanaian community in Iran is not compromised,” the release stated.
The government further reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Ghanaians abroad, assuring that updates will be provided should the need arise.
