Investors called to help address post-harvest loses in Ghana

Consumer Price Index (CPI) data released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) pegged inflation of food and fuel among others at 40.4% in October this year due to what experts say is as a result of post-harvest loses.

This according to Director of Plant Protection Services at the Agric Ministry, Eric Bentil Quaye is worrying to the ministry and pleaded on individuals to invest in the area in addressing the challenge as government continue to do her part.

He made this call at the opening of the 7th edition of the International Agrofood and Plastprintpack here in Accra.

“We as government have also built adequate warehouses to address post-harvest losses often associated with harvest,” he added.

Savaging the situation, Managing Director of Fairtrade Messe, Organizers of the exhibition Paul Marz assures the public of exhibitors with the rightful technology in addressing the challenge.

Italian Ambassador to Ghana and Togo, H.E Ms. Daniela d’Orlandi, said Italy and Ghana have a strong bilateral relations which has worked well for the mutual benefit of the two countries and promised to further bolster the relations.

The 7th edition of the international Trade show and Conference on Agriculture, Food and Beverage Technology on West Africa agrofood and plastprintpack has opened here in Accra.

The three days event is aimed at helping countries in the West Africa sub-region to increase self-sufficiency and also improved supply in the agriculture value chain.

In total, over 90 exhibitors from 21 countries currently gracing this year’s event at the Accra Internation Conference Centre.
