Minority in Parliament blames gov’t for mismanaging the economy and increasing burden on Ghanaians

The Minority in Parliament says the hike in fuel prices and taxes is increasing the burden on Ghanaians and worsening the economy.

According to Member of Parliament for the Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency and ranking member on the Committee on Mines and Energy John Abdulai Jinapor, the Government has mishandled the economy while increasing taxes and levies unleashing hardship on the already impoverished Ghanaian.

The Minority therefore proffered some proposals which they believe will help alleviate the economic burden the country is currently facing. Among the proposals is government must reconstitute the board of Tema Oil Refinery and appoint a substantive Managing Director to ensure the refinery commence refining crude to its maximum capacity also ask that the economic management team under the Vice President, Dr. Bawumia to be proactive and collaborate with the BoG to release forex as and when it is necessary.

The Member of Parliament for the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam Constituency Cassiel Ato Forson also added that the revenue that is being generated by the National Petroleum Authority through the Unified Petroleum Pricing Fund, BOST Margins and Fuel marking margin is not backed by legislation hence illegal.

He revealed that the Minority caucus will file a motion on the floor of Parliament to stop the NPA from charging these levies if this does not stop.
