NAFAC:Deputy Tourism Minister underscores commitment to achieving targeted objective

Deputy Minister in charge of Ghana’s Tourism, Arts and Culture Mark Okraku-Mantey says his Ministry is determined to reach the four billion dollar target set by the President of the Republic as contribution to national economic growth by 2024.

He made this disclosure at the launch of the National Festival on Arts and Culture (NAFAC) and also outlined strategies by the Commission and the Ministry to make industry a tool for development and wealth creation.

In all aspects of national development, there is the need to pay attention to the impact of culture on Ghana’s efforts to achieving the desired outcome.

Hence the emergence of the National Commission on Culture (NAFAC) by Ghana’s own the late Dr. Alexander Atta Yaw Kyerematen, in what he began as ‘Cultural Experiment’ in 1960.

Speaking at the media launch of the National Festival on Arts and Culture (NAFAC) as part of strategies by the Commission and the Ministry to make industry a tool for development and wealth creation, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey says his Ministry is determined in achieving the target set by the President to raising four billion dollars by 2024 for support to the national economy and cited some areas to help make it achievable.

As a biennial event, it had not been held after the last edition in 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, this year’s edition which comes off on December 9-16, 2022 at Cape Coast would have on board a competition of performances between the sixteen regions under the theme, “Reviving Patriotism, Peace and Unity through Cultural Diversity for Sustainable Development.”

Executive Director of the National Commission on Culture, Janet Edna Nyame has been explaining the importance of the theme and believes the festival will contribute to the artistic and socio-economic development of the State.

NAFAC 2022 is also in honour of the memory of its founder, the late Dr Alexander Kyerematen as his legacy had lived on after sixty years.

Chain of activities kick starts across the country to prepare for the celebration in December this year.
