NDC’s tenth national delegates congress

A total of eighty-one members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been approved to contest for various National Executive positions in the upcoming Delegates’ Congress of the party. We take a critical look at some key positions been vied for by some aspirants ahead of the event scheduled for December 17, 2022.

After some pockets of violence in the just-ended tenth Delegates Congress in the Central Region last weekend, where National Women and Youth Organizers were elected, many hoped that the upcoming elections to elect the rest of the executives of the biggest opposition party, NDC will be devoid of violence.

The highlight of the event is the Chairmanship position of the party which is being keenly contested by the incumbent Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the outgoing General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, former MP for Klottey Klorley, Ishmael Nii Armah Ashietey and former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Samuel Yaw Adusei. At a ceremony in Accra to launch his campaign the incumbent National Chairman Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo outlined some of his accomplishments.

But the outgoing General Secretary of the party, who is now eyeing the enviable position promised in an interview that he will do everything within his power in making sure NDC gets power in 2024 if given the nod.

Ishmael Nii Armah Ashietey on Talk Time show, believes that things could have been done better if he was National Chairman of the party.

The youngest aspirant Samuel Yaw Adusei is of the view that his party can’t win the 2024 elections with any of these candidates and that he is the best choice to lead the party for victory in 2024 general elections.

The nature of the chairmanship position has pushed the leader of the party, H.E John Dramani Mahama to announce his position of not endorsing of these candidates. But in a statement cited by Pan African Television Newsroom, the former President, cautioned the public and members of the party to stop associating his name with ongoing campaigns. This he said neither he nor his family has endorsed any candidate in the NDC national executive elections slated for Saturday, December 17, 2022.
