Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has commissioned a new rice ‘Common User’ factory at Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa West district of the Bono Region.
At the launch of the facility, he indicated that government has solved the challenge by extending electricity to start production as it will add value to the production of rice in the region.
The state-of-the-art facility which falls directly under the 1D1F initiative aims at changing the nature of Ghana’s economy from one which is dependent on import and export of raw materials to one which is focused on manufacturing, value addition of processed goods.
Bono Regional Minister, Juliana Owusu Banahene underscored the need for a factory in the Region and said its establishment had come at the right time.
Some rice farmers in the district called on government for monetary support and availability of fertilizers to boost rice production in the Region.
The Common User Factory (CUF) concept was conceived in 2017 following policy direction by the Ministry of Trade and Industry to realign rural Enterprise Program to be consistent with the government of Ghana industrial transformation agenda.
