RESIDENTS OF OKPOI GONO ON DEPLORABLE ROADS, WANTS ROADS FIXED TO IMPROVE ACCESSIBILTY

Residents of Okpoi Gono in the Ledzokuku Constituency have expressed concern about the deplorable state of road network that connects from Okpoi Gono to Coastal down. The road awarded on contract by the former NDC Government has been abandoned by Government. According to the residents the dusty nature of the road network is causing serious health threats in the community.

Reliable and dependable road infrastructure helps facilitate the movement of goods and people, creates employment, and supports economic growth. Unfortunately for residence of Okpoi Gono, the story is different as they have to deal with poor road network. According to residents the bad nature of the road network in the area is affecting socio-economic activities and posing serious health threats.

Construction works according to residents commenced under former President John Kuffuor but was abandoned. The roads saw some facelift when the current government in a bid to win votes in the just ended 2020 elections graded the road network but abandoned the project after the elections. Residents are livid and are blaming government for what they described as political exploitation.

For commercial drivers who use the stretch the bad nature of the road network is seriously affecting daily sales.

Maame Adwoa a trader and resident of Okpoi Gono who has lived there for twelve years tells me that, the nature of the road is causing great discomfort as her items are always covered with dust.

For other residents access to potable drinking water is a major source of worry. The situation according to the residents is putting dire economic hardships on several families as they have to ensure access to clean water with the surge in covid-19 cases.

Residents are therefore calling on government to come to their aid to improve their socioeconomic situation.
