Sports Ministry Warns Borteyman Sports Complex Land Encroachers

The future of the Borteyman Sports Complex, a multidisciplinary sports facility has come under threat as encroachment issues threaten to undermine its development. This revelation was made during a recent visit by the Hon. Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, who embarked on an inspection tour of the complex in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025.

The Minister’s visit aimed to assess the ongoing activities at the facility, which was officially commissioned on February 13, 2024, which hosted 13th African games.

Out of the approximately 100 acres of land earmarked for the facility as its total land size, the development has so far taken place on 43 acres, with significant potential for expansion and utilization.

However, concerns have been raised over the remaining 53 acres of land that remain under threat from private developers encroaching on the designated space. Such encroachments pose a serious risk to the full realization of the complex’s potential as a world class sporting hub.

During his inspection, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams issued a stern warning to all unauthorized land encroachers, urging them to cease their activities immediately. The Minister assured the public and stakeholders that government authorities would take decisive measures to reclaim and safeguard the encroached areas, emphasizing the importance of protecting the land for the country’s sporting future.

“The development of the Borteyman Sports Complex is crucial for Ghana’s sports infrastructure. All encroachers must desist from further encroachment, and necessary steps will be taken to restore the integrity of this vital facility,” the Minister stated.

The Borteyman Sports Complex, strategically located in a suburb of Accra, holds great promise if fully developed. Its state-of-the-art facilities are expected to boost Ghana’s sports industry, attract international events, and foster local talent. However, the current encroachment issue threatens to hinder these aspirations unless prompt action is taken.

The government’s commitment to safeguarding the land underscores its dedication to developing robust sports infrastructure that can serve generations to come.
