UTAG SRIKE:STUDENTS CALL FOR RESOLUTION OF IMPASSE: Concerned Students at
The University of Ghana have called on Government to hold discussions with the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) in finding an amicable solution to the ongoing strike which has seriously jeopardized academic studies.
On January 6, 2022 The University Teachers Association of Ghana in a statement complained about what it refers to as lack of trust that has so far characterized their engagement with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC)
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of UTAG withdrew teaching and other related activities on January 10, 2022 over failure of employer to abide by agreed timelines.
Following government’s inability to adhere to the directive, UTAG proceeded on a nationwide strike which has affected academic studies on the campuses of most tertiary institutions.
At the University of Ghana where our news team toured, lecture halls were deserted members and students were seen studying as the strike bit hard.
Some who took turns and spoke shared varied views over the exceedingly worrying situation.
President of Political Science Students Association, Stephen Awuah-Pobi who appealed for urgent intervention from government in addressing the impasse further disclosed how they have assisted fresh students to cope with studies which has hit a snag following the ongoing strike.
