Vice President Engages Trade Ministry, Affirms Gov’t Commitment to Industrial Growth

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to industrial growth following engagements with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry aimed at strengthening Ghana’s productive economy.

The Vice President made this known during a working visit to the Ministry on Thursday, December 18, 2025, where discussions focused on industrial expansion, local value addition and the policy support required to accelerate job creation.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang said the engagement formed part of ongoing efforts to understand how key economic ministries are positioned to deliver on national priorities, stressing that industrialisation remains a central pillar of the government’s development agenda.

According to her, building a resilient economy requires deliberate support for local industries, access to raw materials and policies that encourage investment and manufacturing.

She welcomed the Ministry’s focus on agribusiness and value-added production, noting that strengthening local supply chains would not only reduce imports but also create sustainable employment opportunities, particularly for women and young people.

The Vice President highlighted ongoing initiatives to revive strategic industries, including the sugar and rubber value chains, describing them as critical to deepening industrial activity and expanding Ghana’s manufacturing base.

She assured the Ministry of the Presidency’s support and indicated that she would engage the Minister of Finance to fast-track the policy incentives and approvals needed to unlock private sector investment.

Earlier, the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, briefed the Vice President on the Ministry’s work, outlining reforms to improve the business environment and plans to scale up agro-processing and manufacturing.

She disclosed that preparations were underway for the revival of the Komenda Sugar Factory, expected to resume operations in 2026, alongside the establishment of new garment and agro-processing factories projected to create thousands of jobs.

Madam Ofosu-Adjare expressed appreciation for the Vice President’s engagement, noting that it reinforced the Ministry’s mandate and underscored government’s resolve to drive industrial growth.
