Vice President Opoku-Agyemang Holds Constructive Talks With EU Ambassador On Partnership, Peace, And Trade

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang welcomed H.E. Rune Skinnebach, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Ghana, to her office for a productive discussion focused on strengthening bilateral and regional cooperation.

During the meeting, the Vice President emphasized the need for genuine partnerships, particularly in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment. She highlighted the importance of reviewing existing agreements, addressing gaps, and fostering cooperation based on equity, respect, and shared strategic interests.

“Peace is the cornerstone of progress. Adopting a preventative approach to security challenges is far more effective, sustainable, and cost-efficient than reacting after crises occur,” the Vice President stated, noting that collective commitment, early action, and strong institutional collaboration are critical to safeguarding stability.

The discussion also explored emerging opportunities across Africa, with particular focus on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Professor Opoku-Agyemang reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to leverage the AfCFTA to strengthen its position as a regional hub for trade and integration.

The Vice President expressed appreciation for the EU as a valued partner and underscored Ghana’s interest in deepening collaboration to promote stability, prosperity, and shared growth.
