WORLD RADIO DAY: GJA calls for immediate passage of Broadcasting Bill

As part of activities to commemorate this year’s World Radio Day, the Ghana Journalists Association has called on the legislative arm of government to pass the Broadcasting Bill which seeks to sanitize the Ghanaian airwaves. In consonance with this, the Ghana Institute of Journalism in conjunction with UNESCO has organized a forum for students of the institution under the theme, forging peace, civility and addressing incitement to violence: The role of radio.

February 13 has been set aside by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization to celebrate radio broadcast, improve international cooperation among radio broadcasters and encourage decision-makers to create and provide access to information through this mass medium, including community radios.

At a forum to mark the celebration in Ghana, Public Affairs of the Ghana Journalists Association, Rebecca Ekpe, who delivered a speech on behalf of the GJA called on Parliament to immediately pass the Broadcasting Bill which seeks to sanitize the Ghanaian airwaves.

She also called on media house owners to refine their programs to help sanitize the system and promote peace ahead of the 2024 general elections.

The National Media Commission also outlined some measures to support the campaign towards peaceful elections.
