Leader of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama has accused the ruling government of shirking its security responsibilities.

According to the former President armed robbery has increased astronomically and traders have been living in fear since the New Patriotic Party government took over.

“Since the NDC left office, insecurity has been on the ascendancy. Everybody complains about the insecurity issues. Gold traders, momo merchants and market women are attacked by armed robbers while the government looks on unperturbed.”

He further sounded a warning to persons engaged in vices such as armed robbery to be on guard since the next NDC government will clamp down on the canker.

Background

Generally, issues of insecurity have been rife in the country with several reports of attacks on individuals over the years. In December 2021, a mobile money merchant in Konongo of the Ashanti Region was shot and killed by two suspected armed robbers.

A similar unfortunate event occurred in Walewale on February 17, 2024 where a Momo vendor was murdered in cold blood after being attacked by two suspected robbers. The attack also left seven individuals injured.
