September FIFA Rankings: Black Stars Drop To 70th Globally, Fall To 14th In Africa

19/9/2024

The Black Stars of Ghana have dropped six places in the latest FIFA World Rankings following their recent abysmal performance during the September international break.

The team’s poor performance in two games against Angola and Niger for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers has seen the Black Stars drop to 70th spot in the world.

They also dropped two places on the continental rankings, currently occupying the 14th spot with Burkina Faso and Cape Verde climbing above them.

The Stars were defeated (1-0) by the Palancras Negras of Angola on home soil before drawing 1-1 with Niger in Morocco on matchday two leading to their fall.

FIFA’s previous ranking saw Ghana occupying the 64th and 12th spots in the world and Africa respectively.

This followed Ghana’s triumph in two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier games.

Currently, six countries have leapfrogged Ghana in the global rankings including Burkina Faso, Albania and Cape Verde.

In the African rankings, Morocco are top of the chart with Senegal dropping to second. Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire and Tunisia rounded up the top five.
