The Stallions of Burkina Faso have become the first team to qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (2025 AFCON) in Morocco after defeating Burundi by 2-0 in their matchday four clash.
The Burkinabes sealed their victory on Sunday, October 13, 2024, after former Aston Villa forward Bertrand Traore came off the bench to double the lead by perfectly converting a spot-kick four minutes into added time.
Prior, Saudi Arabia-based Mohamed Konate netted the first goal of the game to give the Stallions the lead five minutes into the first half.
Burkina Faso earlier defeated Burundi 4-1 in their previous round in Abidjan.
The victory took the Stallions to 10 points from four games in Group L, enabling them to join host Morocco as the first team to qualify for the tourney.
Meanwhile, Senegal are in second place with seven points from three matches and will also qualify if they win their match against Malawi on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
