Some traders at Lapaz, a suburb of Accra are calling on President-elect, John Dramani Mahama to fulfill all promises made to the business community after his inauguration on January 7, 2025.
They are also expecting him to abolish nuisance taxes levied on items at the port, create decent and sustainable jobs for the unemployed and also address the cedi’s shortfall against some major trading currencies.
Traders in Lapaz, Accra, expressed grave concern over cedi depreciation and duty charges for importers, calling on President-Elect John Dramani Mahama to address them with utmost urgency.
A Trader who also doubles as a technician, Eddie Yamoah said “The promises were much, but the business community our main expectation from him is reducing of taxes so that the economy will be in the way we were expecting so that we can live happily the way some past year back, we were living”
His counterpart, Great Makiko also said “Challenges facing the business community is the levies impose on importers at the port coupled with the dollar rate are affecting our operations, because when the importer bring the goods to the market due to the exchange rate we can’t afford the cost”.
In a related development, President of the Concerned Second Dealers Association of Ghana, Daniel Asare shared a similar opinion.
He further urged John Dramani Mahama to restore fairness and balance to Ghana’s ailing economy.
