Ghana today joined the rest of the world to mark this year’s Zero Discrimination Day under the theme, ‘Remove laws that harm, create laws that empower’ societies to treat victims of HIV/AIDS with dignity and respect.
Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission Steve Kyeremeh Atuahene underscored the essence of Ghana’s constitution in making elaborate plans towards addressing discrimination against persons living with HIV/AIDS.
He also expressed concern over the number of infected persons living with the disease which has ballooned for the past five years.
Angela Trenton Mbonda from UNAIDS said her outfit in collaboration with Ghana AIDS Commission and the UNDP are considering establishing a health facility which will be known as Discrimination Stigma Free Centre to allow persons with the virus to freely report feedbacks on stigmatization experiences.
