President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Madam Soyella Cecilia as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Lawra Municipality in the Upper West Region.
Madam Cecilia’s nomination was announced in an official press statement issued by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on Thursday, October 24, 2025 in line with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Government Act, 2016 (Act936), as amended.
Her nomination comes as part of the President’s renewed effort to strengthen local governance and enhance development at the municipal level.
She is expected to bring her extensive experience in community development and public administration to bear on the management of the municipality.
The statement, signed by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, AhmedIbrahim said the President’s decision was communicated through a letter (Ref.No.OPS.102/25/3571) from the Office of the President.
Madam Cecilia is, however, subject to approval by the Lawra Municipal Assembly in accordance with local government procedures.
If confirmed, Madam Soyella Cecilia will take over from the outgoing MCE and lead initiatives aimed at improving social infrastructure, youth empowerment, and economic growth in the area.
