The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, brought the curtain down on his nationwide “Thank You Tour” with a rousing visit to Dambai, the regional capital of the Oti Region, on Friday, 25th July 2025.
The occasion drew an enthusiastic crowd, including the Regional Minister Hon John Kwadwo Gyapong, some MPs from the Region, Regional and Constituency Executives, traditional leaders, youth groups, opinion leaders, and citizens from across and beyond the region. They gathered to welcome the President and to hear his message of hope, national renewal, and inclusive development.
President Mahama, affectionately known as The Nation Builder, expressed profound gratitude to the people of the Oti Region for their unwavering support, which contributed significantly to his electoral victory. But this visit was more than just a gesture of appreciation—it was also a platform for unveiling a new era of infrastructure growth and social transformation for the region.

In his address, President Mahama reiterated his government’s commitment to reset Ghana’s development agenda and meet the long-standing needs of underserved regions like Oti. True to his legacy of infrastructure delivery, he announced a comprehensive package of projects, with a strong emphasis on road construction and health infrastructure.
At the heart of the President’s announcement was the construction of a modern bridge over the Oti River at Dambai—a project of strategic importance that ranks high among the national priorities outlined in the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review under the “Big Push” initiative.
Additional road projects unveiled include:
Upgrading of the Okadjakrom–Kwamekrom Road
Upgrading of the Abotoase–Atonkor Road
Upgrading of the Kpassa–Tinjase Road
Rehabilitation of the Hohoe–Jasikan Road
Upgrading of the Nkwanta–Oti Damanko Road
Rehabilitation of the Hohoe–Baika–Jasikan Road
Improvement of the Nkwanta–Kpassa–Oti Damanko stretch
Upgrading of the Nkwanta–Dambai Road
These critical road networks, according to the President, are currently at the procurement stage and will soon see active implementation to improve connectivity, facilitate trade, and enhance access to social services.

President Mahama also addressed a key health infrastructure gap in the region. He lamented the failure of the previous NPP government under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to fulfill its promise of constructing a Regional Hospital for the people of Oti. After eight years of missed opportunities, the current administration has committed to deliver on this essential project.
“I assure you that my government will construct a fully equipped Regional Hospital for the good people of Oti Region, as part of our vision for equitable healthcare across all regions of Ghana,” President Mahama declared.
The people of Oti Region expressed gratitude to the President for his deep concern and practical interventions. Chiefs, elders, and residents commended him not only for keeping faith with them but also for demonstrating purposeful leadership through action.

According to the GIFEC Director Mubarak Diplomatic, they extend heartfelt appreciation to all stakeholders, organizers, volunteers, and citizens who contributed to making the Oti leg of the Thank You Tour a tremendous success. Most importantly, we thank President John Dramani Mahama for his bold and visionary steps to transform the Oti Region, particularly the historic bridge project over the Oti River.
