U-20 AFCON 2025Q: Black Satellites beat Niger to record first win

21/10/2024

The Black Satellites of Ghana have secured their first three points of the U-20 WAFU B Cup of Nations Championship with a win over Niger on Sunday, October 20.

Aziz Musibau scored a brace in the second-half to seal the needed victory for Desmond Ofei’s side.

The victory followed the Satellites’ 2-2 draw in their opening game against Benin in the second Group A fixture on Thursday, October 18.

Similarly, Niger were also held to a draw 2-2 by Togo in their first outing, and were equally looking for their first three points.

Despite both teams creating chances in the first half of the game, neither of them could leverage the opportunities to take the lead hence went into recess goalless.

However, Ghana broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute after a long-range strike from Musibau found the back of the Nigeriens’ net to give the Black Satellites the lead.

He doubled the lead 10 minutes later to seal the victory for Satellites.

The Nigeriens fought back relentlessly but could not clear the deficit as the Satellites kept their composure to keep a clean sheet at the end of game.

The Satellites now have four points after two games and will face Togo in their final group game on Wednesday, October 23.
The tournament serves as a qualifier for next year’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
