Former Member of Parliament for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro, Sylvester Tetteh, has questioned the performance of the incumbent New Patriotic Party General Secretary, Justin Kodua, arguing that he has not given a good enough account of himself to merit re-election.
Weighing into the conversation on Talk Time with Comrade Kwesi Pratt Junior on Pan African Television, one-time National Youth Authority Chief Executive Officer, Sylvester Tetteh who is contesting the General Secretary position, believes the NPP needs a different approach to rebuild the party and prepare it for the 2028 general elections.
The race for the New Patriotic Party’s General Secretary position is gathering momentum ahead of the party’s national executive elections scheduled for October 3, 2026.
Incumbent General Secretary Justin Kodua is seeking a second term, but faces competition from, among others, former Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro MP Sylvester Tetteh.
Mr. Tetteh is making the case that the party needs a change in leadership, arguing that Mr. Kodua’s record does not justify his retention as General Secretary.
He says the NPP’s performance under the current national executive leadership, particularly its defeat in the 2024 general elections, should be a major consideration for delegates.
“Justin Kodua has not given a good account of himself to deserve another term as General Secretary. I believe the party needs a new direction and leadership capable of reorganising the party and preparing it to win the 2028 elections.”
Mr. Tetteh says his experience within the party, in public administration and in Parliament places him in a strong position to take up the General Secretary role.
He has described himself as a political organiser with experience at the grassroots and national levels and says he is prepared to help rebuild the NPP from the constituency level upwards.
But while challenging Mr. Kodua for the General Secretary position, Sylvester Tetteh believes he has what it takes to occupy an even higher position in the party.
He argues that his leadership qualities, political experience and understanding of the party make him a strong candidate to lead the NPP.
“I believe I stand a better chance of leading the NPP and providing the kind of leadership the party needs at this critical moment.”
The General Secretary contest is one of the closely watched races in the NPP’s upcoming national executive elections.
A recent Global InfoAnalytics poll, however, puts Justin Kodua ahead of his challengers, although a significant number of respondents remain undecided.
The delegates will ultimately decide who takes responsibility for the party’s organisational machinery as the NPP seeks to regroup ahead of the 2028 general elections.
