Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, says he will tackle security issues in the six newly-created regions by setting up military barracks if voted for in the upcoming elections.

Addressing Chiefs at Gambaga in the North East Region as part of his Building Ghana tour, he also stressed the urgent need for improved security in the new regions and the importance of proactive steps to ensure the residents’ safety and well-being.

“All the six new regions are going to have a military barracks so that the Ghana army will be present in all the regions,” he stated.

He again disclosed to the Chiefs his intention of forming a joint military and police anti-armed robbery squads whose primary task will be the maintenance of peace and security. He underscored the importance of a peaceful Ghana to the realization of his flagship policy, the 24-hour economy.

Speaking about the North East Region, the NDC standard-bearer spoke at length about the region’s many needs, including a regional hospital, university, and a sports recreational facility. Mr. Mahama then promised to ensure the creation of these projects should he win the December 7 polls. “I want to assure the North East region and all the other five (5) regions that these are facilities that the NDC has committed to provide when we come into office after 7th January 2025.”

John Dramani Mahama, as part of his building Ghana tour, has been sharing his vision of a better Ghana with Chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and Ghanaians in general across the country.

In what promises to be a keenly contested election on 7th December 2024, Mr. Mahama will be seeking the mandate of Ghanaians to rule this country again nearly eight years after losing the 2016 polls and leaving office in January 2017.
