The National Democratic Congressโ manifesto launch in Winneba may have been a resounding success but John Dramani Mahama is not resting on his oars; the standard bearer of the party who will be making a third attempt at the highest office of the land โ the Presidency, has hit the ground running with his Greater Accra Regional Tour.
The former Presidentโs first stop was a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Ada Traditional Area, Djetse Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, a man he fondly refers to as his โfatherโ. After a few minutes of in-camera dialogue with the traditional leader, Mr. Mahama, at his usual ebullient best, spoke highly of the Ada community โ a people who have since the inception of the fourth republic offered unalloyed support to the National Democratic Congress and have been pivotal to its electoral fortunes.
Mahama underscored the importance of Ada to the Ghanaian economy, especially so blest with an abundance of salt. However, he stressed that the full economic potential of the community could come to fruition if transportation is enhanced. He therefore pledged to tackle the unmotorable roads in the community if he assumes office.

Calls for the dualisation of major roads in the country have heightened and for legitimate reasons: aside reducing the carnage that have characterised Ghanaian roads, such a move will be of great economic value not only to the people of Ada but Ghana as a whole. It is in light of the aforesaid that the former President has promised to prioritise the dualisation the N1 highway recognising its strategic importance for both local and national development.

Allegations have been rife about a capitalist capture of large portions (if not all) of the Ada Songor by Electrochem Ghana Ltd. Upon the former Presidentโs arrival at Sege, the people made their concerns heard, registering their displeasure about their source of livelihood being unjustly taken away from them. They informed Mahama about several petitions they had made to the Presidency – all amounting to naught. John Mahama on his part promised to look at these petitions upon his assumption of office and address their concerns.

Ashaiman was draped in the red, white, green, and black colours of the National Democratic Congress as the campaign team made its way to the Nii Amui Park. The park was almost impenetrable as a gaggle of people flanked both shoulders of the road, waving party flags, tooting vuvuzelas and cheering loudly. While Ashaiman remains a vibrant community, its roads, mostly pot-hole-riddled, have been a major bane. The NDCโs flagbearer has pledged to tackle Ashaimanโs road situation head-on if he is successful in the December polls.

What is politics without banter? Simply boring and lifeless! The campaign tour presented the former President an opportunity to respond to Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, his main opponent in the upcoming elections and oh boy he didnโt pass it up! With both candidates firing salvos at each otherโs throats, Mr. Mahama took time to address the popular ‘๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐’ phrase by Dr. Bawumia, mimicking the Vice Presidentโs tone and hysterical laughs much to the amusement of the NDC party faithfuls.

Former President John Mahama also touched on The Vice Presidentโs encounter with journalists. He disclosed that the main purpose for which the New Patriotic Party decided to have a media engagement a day after the NDC launched its manifesto was to take attention from the manifesto; a move he described as devious. The NDC flagbearer reiterated that the media encounter backfired while poking fun at Dr. Bawumia for stammering while answering questions from journalists.

The campaign trail next hits Amasaman, Anyaa Sowutuom and Trobu where the former President is expected to share his โBuilding the Ghana we wantโ dream with constituents. He will also touch on some challenges faced by persons in that enclave while touching on some solutions he believes will remedy the situation and improve the lives of residents.
