A/R: Veep Assures Completion of Abandoned Mamponteng Jubilee Market

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has assured residents of Mamponteng and the Kwabre East Municipality that government will, at all costs, complete the long-abandoned Mamponteng Jubilee Market project.

The market, which was first initiated on 1st August 2012 using the District Assembly Common Fund and other special funds, has since been left uncompleted. The abandoned site has not only displaced traders, forcing many to sell their produce under unsafe high-tension poles, but has also become a haven for criminal activities.

Speaking during her working visit to the Ashanti Region, the Vice President emphasized that the completion of the project is a national priority that transcends partisan politics.

“Our responsibility is to complete all abandoned projects regardless of who starts it, that’s the NDC,” she stated.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang underscored the importance of decent trading conditions for women in the community, saying:

“If our market women are unable to sell their produce under good market conditions, how do they feed their families?”

She further pledged government’s commitment to delivering on the project, noting that once completed, the Jubilee Market will create over 1,000 jobs for the people of Mamponteng and the Kwabre East Municipality.

“In all means possible, have my assurance that government will complete the abandoned Mamponteng Jubilee Market,” the Vice President declared.

The Mamponteng Jubilee Market is part of a series of abandoned projects the government has promised to revive across the country as part of its development agenda.
