The government is set to allocate funds to the newly established National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) in the upcoming national budget. This was disclosed by the Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority, Mr. Edudzi Tamaklo during a panel interview on TV3’s political talk show.
According to Mr. Tamaklo, the inclusion of NAIMOS in the 2026 budget demonstrates the government’s commitment to intensifying the fight against galamsey by providing NAIMOS with the necessary resources.
He explained that the government continues to acknowledge the operations of NAIMOS in fighting galamsey hence the support to resource NAIMOS. Mr. Tamaklo further hinted that a significant portion of the allocation will go into resourcing and retooling their operations in making sure all galamseyers are arrested and put before the law.
He emphasized that the government remains resolute in its quest to fight galamsey and reclaim the water bodies and forest.
Meanwhile, the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassile Ato Forson, is expected to present the 2026 National Budget Statement and Economic Policy on Wednesday, November 13.
The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operation Secretariat (NAIMOS) is a special task force dedicated to combating illegal mining (galamsey). This multi-agency body is responsible for coordinating and leading operations to seize mining equipment, make arrests and restore degraded lands and polluted water bodies.
