Affordable, Resilient Technologies and Cleaner Energy Key to Ghana’s Future – Veep

Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has urged graduates of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) to prioritize innovation in affordable and resilient technologies, alongside cleaner energy solutions, as critical drivers of Ghana’s sustainable development.

Addressing the 10th Congregation Ceremony of UENR in Sunyani, the Vice President emphasized that a sustainable future depends on technologies that are tailored to local realities — accessible, environmentally responsible, and capable of meeting the everyday needs of communities.

“Education, when relevant, has the power to transform society positively,” Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said. “When we invest in knowledge, we invest in a future that is more prosperous, fairer, and more sustainable.”

The Vice President highlighted the central role of energy systems in national development, noting that they must expand access while protecting the environment. She stressed that impactful innovation flourishes through collaboration between academic institutions, industries, communities, and government.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also called on political leaders, private investors, and industry partners to deepen engagement with UENR. While the government provides an enabling policy environment, she noted that sustainable solutions require strong institutional systems, strategic partnerships, and long-term investment.

Paying tribute to the founding leadership of UENR and the dedication of academic staff and researchers, the Vice President commended their contributions to knowledge creation and innovation. She also recognized parents and guardians for their support in nurturing the next generation of leaders.

In closing, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang encouraged the graduating class to let integrity guide their professional journeys. She reminded them that Ghana’s future depends on their ideas, energy, and commitment to translating knowledge into tangible solutions for the country’s challenges.
