Hon. Nii Armah Ashietey traces his maternal family lineage to Ataa T etteh Mlekuboi, popularly known as Tetteh Hamle, the father of the renowned Ghanaian cocoa pioneer Tetteh Quarshie. Tetteh Mlekuboi, a blacksmith associated with the Osu and Mampong-Akuapem areas, had several children, including Tetteh Quarshie and Naa Morkor. Naa Morkor was therefore the sister of Tetteh Quarshie and an important link in the family lineage.
Through Naa Morkor, the lineage continued to Auntie Ofitekon, who was her daughter and the mother of Hon. Nii Armah Ashietey. Hon. Nii Armah Ashietey is consequently a direct descendant of Tetteh Mlekuboi and belongs to the wider family lineage of Tetteh Quarshie through his sister, Naa Morkor.
This family connection extends beyond ancestry and continues to be demonstrated through Hon. Nii Armah Ashietey’s relationship with the wider family. Every year during the Homowo Festival, he visits the family house in Osu and makes his customary donation to the family. His annual visit and support provide a continuing and practical expression of these family ties, reflecting not only his ancestral connection but also his ongoing participation in, respect for, and support of the family’s traditions and communal life.
The relationship therefore represents a living connection between Hon. Nii Armah Ashietey, the descendants of Ataa Tetteh Mlekuboi, the family of Tetteh Quarshie, and the historic Osu family house. Through his lineage and continued annual participation in the family’s Homowo observance, Hon. Nii Armah Ashietey maintains and honours this important family heritage.
