Flagbearer of the All `People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Hassan Ayariga has thrown a challenge to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to engage him in a presidential debate ahead of the general elections in December this year.
The declaration of his intention was necessitated by the current economic hardship which continues to take a toll on citizens’ livelihood and socioeconomic activities, a situation he claimed has led to the involvement and addiction to gambling by both the unemployed and gainfully employed youth alike.
Dr. Ayariga’s assertions were contained in a brief speech that preceded the official unveiling of Rev. Dr. Samuel Worlanyo Mensah as his running mate for the 2024 general elections. The presidential aspirant questioned the capability of the youth as Ghana’s future leaders now that they have turned into compulsive gamblers due to financial instability.
“The future of our country has turned to a gambling economy, because those kids supposed to be Doctors, Engineers, Professors, Lawyers are using their school fees to gamble. So, we are going to lose all these professionals in the future,” he lamented.
The APC leader blamed both the incumbent government and its predecessor for the country’s current economic woes.
“Now these same people are coming back for power. They have failed us yet they are running 24 hours looking for power. We will debate them, we want to debate them, I want to debate them,” he challenged the NPP and NDC to an intellectual discourse.
Meanwhile, Dr. Ayariga touted the All People’s Congress (APC) as the only viable alternative to end Ghana’s political duopoly. He urged eligible voters to make the APC the “third force” in the upcoming December polls.
“Make us the third force because we are the third force for you. We have made our decision; it is your turn to make the decision. If you vote for Hassan Ayariga and the APC, the NDC will not win, and the NPP will also not win. A vote for APC is a vote for your family; it’s never a wasted vote,” he assured.
With Rev. Dr. Samuel Worlanyo Mensah as the APC’s running mate, the party is hopeful of making a significant impact in the 2024 general elections.
