Health workers and residents at Boffourkrom in the Sunyani West District are appealing to Government to renovate the only health facility in the town. According to them, the deplorable state of the facility is affecting healthcare delivery in the community.
Boffourkrom Health Centre which is the only health facility in the area serves villages such as Koase, Asantefou Sre so, Teacherkorm, Pepewase, Nkwadum , Kyidomhene and other nearby communities within the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region. The centre which is not only in a poor State has also been taken over by reptiles and other domestic animals, depriving residents of quality healthcare.
Speaking to Pan African News, some nurses at the facility expressed fear over the consistent attacks of snakes on patients and nurses. A former security at the facility, Samuel Oppong also called on authorities to as a matter of urgency come to their aid.
Assemblyman for Boffourkrom Electoral Area, Awafo Daniel disclosed that, nurses sometimes report late at the facility due to the struggle in getting a vehicle to work.
This he said, is badly affecting healthcare delivery in the community.
Apart from the deplorable state of the health center, there is no accomodation for nurses who work at the facility.
Also, the only weighing center at the health center looks more like a death trap for health workers, nursing mothers and their babies.
The structure has neither been tiles nor cemented with no furniture. From all indications, the situation at Boffourkrom continues to wreak havoc thus, robbing residents of accessing proper healthcare .
It therefore behooves on government to address the situation before it gets out of hand.
