The Ministry of Education has hosted a visiting delegation from Zimbabwe, comprising Members of Parliament, committee officials, and representatives from the Zimbabwean Embassy in Ghana. The visit forms part of a broader study tour to learn from Ghana’s education system, innovation ecosystem, and industrial development frameworks.
The delegation paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Education, Honourable Haruna Iddrisu, in Accra today.
In his remarks, the Minister briefed the delegation on Ghana’s ongoing education reforms, government policy direction, and strategic efforts to improve access, equity, quality, and relevance at all levels of the education system. He underscored the government’s commitment to aligning education with national development goals, particularly through the promotion of technical and vocational education, STEM, and digital learning.
Leading the Zimbabwean delegation was Hon. Dr. Thokozani Khupe, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development. She expressed admiration for Ghana’s progress in integrating innovation into its educational structure and stressed Zimbabwe’s interest in building partnerships that ensure sustainability and reduce reliance on state funding.
“We are eager to learn from Ghana’s exemplary role in innovation and explore opportunities for collaboration that can advance our own systems,” Dr. Khupe stated.
Discussions between the two parties focused on innovation in education, governance of tertiary institutions, and strategies for leveraging science and technology as drivers of economic growth. The exchange highlighted the importance of cross-country learning in strengthening education and development on the continent.
The visit reflects a growing trend of inter-African cooperation in education and innovation. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties, sharing knowledge, and developing joint initiatives to benefit their respective sectors.
As part of the visit, the Zimbabwean delegation will tour selected tertiary institutions, innovation hubs, and industrial enclaves across Ghana. These engagements are expected to offer the delegation practical insight into how Ghana implements its education and innovation policies, and pave the way for future collaboration.
